3 Days Gorilla Safari

Parc National des Volcans was the first National park in Africa to be gazetted in 1925. Situated in the far northwest of Rwanda, this park was gazetted with the sole aim of protecting the Mountain gorillas and the steep slopes of the rich mosaic montane ecosystems and the magnificent mountain range which are punctuated by the evergreen bamboo forest, swamp, heath and open grassland.

An awe inspiring trek through the foothills of the Virungas offers scenic views. Parc National des Volcans is endowed not only with the endangered Mountain Gorillas but also with golden monkeys and colourful birds. Open space in the forest will enable you view the magnificent peaks o the virungas.

Detailed Trip Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive Kanombe Airport in Rwanda and transfer to Kigali

You will be picked from the airport by a Trek East Africa Safari Representative (subject to time of arrival) or from your hotel in Kigali from where you will drive to ruhengeri, Volcanoes National Park. The drive is comfortable and at most would take about two and a half hours. Overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge

Day 2: Gorilla tracking and a Community walking tour

After an early breakfast, head to the park gate where you are expected at 08:00 hours for registration and pre briefing. With the park guides, you will start the search for these rare Mountain Gorillas.

The gorilla safari trek through Parc des Volcans can take between 2 and 10 hours depending on the family and the movement of the gorillas. Spend an hour viewing the gorillas upon location. Later return to your lodge for a lunch break.

Later in the afternoon, take on a community walking tour around neighboring communities of the forest. Overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla Lodge.

Day 3: Golden Monkey tracking and safari drive back to kigali

Early breakfast then report to Kinigi park headquarters from where you will enter into the forest for the Golden Monkey. The Golden monkey trekking is yet another highlight of Volcanoes National Park. There are two habituated groups of Golden Monkey (Cercopithecus Mitis Kandti) with one one group comprising between 80 – 100 members.

You will spend about an hour with the Golden monkeys before transferring back to Kigali or proceed to Kanombe airport for your onward flight out of Rwanda.
