Day 1: Kanombe Airport Kigali Tour
Arrive Kanombe Airport. Meet and greet with a Trek East Africa Safari representative before transferring to Kigali. Dinner and over night stay at Serena Hotel – Kigali.
Day 2: Safari drive to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Your driver / guide will pick you up from your hotel at 7:00 am from where you will depart for Butare, which drive will take you about two (2) hours from Kigali. Prior to visiting the national museum, tour the King’s Palace at Nyanza now a museum. Lunch break there after drive on to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo via Cyangugu border.
The drive will enable you enjoy the scenic views of Nyungwe Forest enroute. Arrival and over night stay at Orchid Safari LodgeDinner and overnight at CoCo Lodge
Day 3: Kahuzi Biega Lowland Gorilla trekking tour – Democratic Republic of Congo
After an early breakfast, visit Kahuzi Biega National Park from where you will be briefed on the “Do’s and “Dont’s” prior to entering the park. With the park guides, you will start the search for these rare Mountain Gorillas.
The lowland gorilla safari trek through Kahuzi Biega National Park is quiet an exciting adventure. Spend an hour viewing the lowland gorillas upon location. Lowland Gorillas differ from Mountain Gorillas despite both being endangered species. The mountain gorilla is larger than the low land gorilla and has longer hair with shorter arms than the lowland gorilla.
The Mountain gorillas are the largest of all primates, with males ranging from 135–220 kilograms and standing between 1.2–1.8 meters while lowland gorillas tend to be a bit smaller than their mountain cousins weighing between 65–180 kilograms. Both subspecies live in family groups called “troops”. Thereafter return to the Lodge where you will have the afternoon at leisure or alternatively take on a community visit.
Day 4: Drive back to Kigali
Drive back to Kigali via Cyangugu border from where you will be transferred to the airport for your outbound flight.
