The 3 day Rwanda primate safari starts and ends in Kigali. Nyungwe Forest with a large concentration of primates is a massive Montane Forest in the south of Rwanda.
This Forest has 13 species of primates including chimpanzee and large groups of Rwenzori colobus. The nyungwe forest also boasts a rich bird life of about 300 bird species, orchids and butterflies among other attractions.
Brief Tour Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Nyungwe Forest
Day 02: Primates Tracking in Nyungwe Forest – Rwanda
Day 03: Nature tour and then Return to Kigali for onward Departure
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Nyungwe
Upon arrival, you will be met by our safari guide who will then transfer you by road to Nyungwe forest lodge for over night accommodation at Nyungwe Forest lodge (D/FB)
Day 2: Primates Tracking in Nyungwe Forest, Rwanda
After an early breakfast, you will set off to discover the primates and scenic splendor of Nyungwe. Viewing the primates on the steep slopes of Nyngwe forest is quite challenging but the park guides at Nyungwe are experienced and knowledgeable in respect to most of most of Nyungwe’s wildlife. The guides shall provide you with all the relevant information about the primates and their lifestyle in Nyungwe forest; feeding habits and reproduction among other details.
Primates to look out for in Nyungwe forest include; chimpanzees, golden monkeys, vervet monkey’s, L’Hoest’s monkey, troops of the Angola Colobus, Hamlyn’s Monkey, Red-tailed Monkey, Dent’s Mona Monkey, Olive Baboon, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys among other primates.
A safari to Nyungwe forest for chimpanzee tracking will also enable you spot some rare bird species. Nyungwe Forest harbors almost 300 bird species of which 24 species are endemics of the Albertine rift region like the paradise flycatcher, great blue Turaco, the Rwenzori Turaco, a long-tailed blue, orange and white bird, and forest hornbills among others. Thereafter return to the lodge for lunch. Have the afternoon at lesure as you wait for dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Nature tour and thereafter return to Kigali for onward Departure
After breakfast, take on a nature tour via the Gusakula Tea Estates and Lake Kivu (2-3hrs walk). Thereafter, start the drive back to Kigali for your onward flight back home.
